Kim Mathers Admits Her DUI Was A “Suicide Attempt”

Kim Mathers called Detroit morning show 'Mojo in the Morning' on Channel 955 to clear the rumors of her sealed October DUI case in Macomb, MI.
Eminem's ex-wife was remorseful to the Detroit morning show host and candid when sharing her thoughts on the morning she drank with the intention of crashing her vehicle. Mathers said, "I did this on purpose and i'm so sorry. I never lied to [first responders]. I told them everything that I did." She added that she had nothing to hide by sealing court documents and it could be heard in the 911 call tapes that, "I said that I was sorry and that it was intentional and I didn't expect to make it out alive." She added that she is getting profession help.
It was a sunny day in October 2015. The intersection of 23 Mile and Card Rd. in Macomb. All of a sudden, Eminem's ex wife Kim Mathers -driving a black Escalade- smashes into a ditch, hits a utility pole and lands upside down. She's trapped inside. Lots of witnesses see this happen, and call 911.
But … there's a potential scandal here.
Police reports and dashcam video reveal: The crash was allegedly no accident. According to police reports, Kim Mathers told first responders it was INTENTIONAL, a suicide attempt. And NOW, her case is raising red flags, including why the drunken driving case was sealed in court.
Once Kim was removed from the SUV, a deputy asked, "How much did you have to drink today Kim?” She replied that she had drank a fifth of Malibu Rum. For most alleged drunk drivers, that is where the story would end. The difference here is how her case would later be handled in court. And the big question everyone is asking now: WHY? Did she get special treatment because of who she is … Because they didn't want her medical info, including a psych evaluation, made public? Is this even LEGAL?
Gary Kennedy, a criminal defense attorney in Shelby Township, said sealing an OWI case is extremely rare. "In any instance, any case should be open to the public." He said, "No matter your status, stature or the amount of money that you have or don't have." Kim's case is slated to be back in court in the next few weeks.
