Shawn Mendes was introducing Sam at the 2020 iHeartRadio Jingle Ball show last week when he used the wrong pronouns, referring to Sam as "he" instead of "they."
After Shawn misgendered Sam, he apologized on his Instagram Story on Friday.
He wrote, "Oh @samsmith I'm so sorry for referring to you as a ‘he' for your jingle ball introduction. It absolutely slipped my mind. Wont happen again..Sending you so much love ! Also you absolutely are one of the funniest people I've ever met.”
Sam accepted the apology, writing, "We're all learning together. Happy holidays, all my love xx.”
