J Balvin Brought Reggaeton to the Main Stage at Coachella 2019 (FINALLY!)

The customer is always right, yeah? Well, the producers of Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California had some complaints after festival goers continuously saw a lack of latin music performers. After cries from fans wishing to get Coachella to the level they knew it could reach, 2019 has made us proud.

J Balvin took the stage to rock out with a diverse, energetic and grandiose performance one could liken to a Katy Perry concert.

The inclusion of Reggaeton on the main stage is really a big deal. The genre which is most characterized by it's Spanish vocals either rapped or sung, has heavy influences from hip hop, Latin American and Caribbean music. According to BuzzAngle's data, Latin music is more popular than Country music in the United States so it’s only right the biggest American music festival represents that.

2019 marks the year of the most Latin artist to grace the Indio, California stage. In 2017 reported that only 11 Latin artist were booked and this year, there are 17.

One viewer tweeted out his sentiment of how important inclusion in a commercial environment really is.

"J Balvin is paying homage to reggaeton music at Coachella by doing a medley of some hits from the past. He did Rakatá by Wisin y Yandel, and now he’s doing Gasolina by Daddy Yankee! Representation matters and I truly understand why now."

Coachella viewers can expect to see a wide range of Latin performers including: Bad Bunny, Rosalía, Las RobertasLos Tucanes de TijuanaMon Laferte and Tomasa del RealOcho OjosJaviera Mena070 ShakeBoy PabloCola BoyyHurray for the Riff RaffRico NastySabrina ClaudioThe Red Pears and Lil Pump.
