A Michigan man, who said he placed pipe bombs outside of phones stores because of "immoral content" on phones and television, was sentenced to over six years in prison yesterday (November 9), according to FOX News.

76-year-old John D. Allen got six and one quarter years in prison for his crimes, according to court records. However, he will get credit for more than a year already spent in custody.

He was accused of placing shrapnel-filled pipe bombs and threatening notes outside of an AT&T store in Sault Ste. Marie and a Verizon store in Cheboygan on September 15, 2021, according to court records. Apparently in reference to Allen, "HJ" and "Handcuff Johnny" were written on United States Postal Service boxes with black tape and wires protruding.

In July, Allen plead guilty to extortion by wrongful use of force, violence, and fear, and to two counts of attempted destruction of building using an explosive device, according to court records.

Although Allen admitted to making the treats, he allegedly "does not understand" anymore why he made them. Defense attorney Steven Jacobs said "He acted alone and does not understand why he made those threats and demands when he knew he couldn’t actually stop pornography," according to a court filing.
