‘8 MILE’ to Celebrate 15th Anniversary with Movie Premiere in Detroit on November 8th

All proceeds to benefit The Verses Project

Detroit, MI – October 16, 2017: Exactly 15 years ago, Bel Air Luxury Cinema hosted the Detroit premiere for 8 MILE. In honor of 8 MILE’s 15th anniversary, Shady Records announces that they are bringing the film back to the big screen with a special red carpet premiere on November 8th at 7:00pm at the Bel Air Luxury Cinema. Tickets are $8.00 and go on sale Wednesday, October 18th, 2017. All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit The Verses Project, which is a branch of the Community Music School (CMS) – Detroit. This program works together with the Michigan State University School of Music as an innovative approach to engaging urban youth of the 21st century by teaching critical literacy skills through the art of songwriting and music production.

Rapper Eminem made his acting debut in 8 MILE as a semi-autobiographical movie that was filmed in Detroit. Along with its critical and box office success, Eminem won an Academy Award® for "Lose Yourself", the first rap/hip-hop song to receive the honor.  Directed by Academy Award® winner, the late Curtis Hanson, 8 MILE also starred Academy Award® winner Kim Basinger, Mekhi Phifer, Omar Benson Miller, Anthony Mackie and the late Brittany Murphy.

Tickets for the premiere screening are $8 each and will go on sale online only, at 12pm on Wednesday, October 18 at www.shadyrecords.com  and www.belairluxurycinema.com. Bel Air Luxury Cinema is located at 10100 W. 8 Mile Rd. in Detroit. All proceeds from ticket sales as well as proceeds from the special 8 MILE concession package will be donated to The Verses Project.

Shady Records created a capsule of limited edition items inspired by 8 Mile to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of the movie.  Items will be available on the Shady Records site in November, so stay tuned.  All proceeds will go to the Marshall Mathers Foundation to benefit the Verses Project: Exploring Literacy through Lyrics and Song.
