This kid is the TRUTH! Brad Galli of WXYZ-Channel 7 shared a great article congratulating the star.
(WXYZ) — Emoni Bates is the Gatorade national boys basketball player of the year.
It's the latest honor for the Ypsilanti Lincoln standout, who is the first sophomore to ever win the award.
Bates averaged 31 points and led Lincoln to a 19-3 record. In 2018-19, Lincoln won the state championship in a season that saw Bates average 28.5 points per game. As a freshman, Bates won Michigan's Gatorade player of the year and Div. 1 AP player of the year awards.
Gatorade surprised Bates with the announcement through social media posts from athletes including Dwyane Wade and Jayson Tatum. Then Tatum formally told Bates on a video call.
