Malawi's High Court has given Madonna permission to adopt twin girls. That will mean that she has taken in a total of four children from the impoverished African country.
Madonna's previous adoptions angered some Malawians who accused the government of allowing the pop star to skirt laws that ban non-residents from adopting children.
The 58-year-old singer had denied reports that she wanted to adopt again after she visited Malawi last month, saying at the time that her trip was for her charity work. Turns out she was seeking to take in Esther and Stella Mwale, who have lived in an orphanage for two years. They are expected to leave Malawi with Madonna on a private jet within the next day or so, headed for New York.
The judge also ruled that social workers must visit Madonna at her New York home before the adoption can be finalized. She’ll also be under observation for a year before the adoption becomes official.
