MSNBC host Rachel Maddow took to social media Tuesday to tease that she was about to finally disclose Donald Trump’s tax returns during her show.
What Maddow and MSNBC actually managed to do was get part of a copy of Trump’s 2005 tax return. Which was already 12 years old. And which the White House had already released.
The Trump administration responded by releasing tax documents from 2005.
Donald Trump paid $38 million on 150 million in income.The White House released the major numbers itself shortly before the broadcast — and slamming MSNBC in the process.
The statement read: “You know you are desperate for rating when you are willing to violate the law to push a story about two pages of tax returns from over a decade ago. Despite this substantial income figure and tax paid, it is totally illegal to steal and publish tax returns. The dishonest media can continue to make this part of their agenda, while the President will focus on his, which includes tax reform that will benefit all Americans.”
The Wall Street Journal had already reported on these tax numbers a year ago.Maddow was later slammed on social media for overhyping the ‘story’.
