Soundgarden’s frontman Chris Cornell was found dead in his hotel room at MGM Grand Detroit, Thursday, just hours after they performed at the Fox Theatre.
And confirmed: He hanged himself.
His crew noticed something wasn’t right with Chris while he was performing. He staggered back and forth across the stage and seemed weak. The show wasn’t bad but people felt like Chris wasn’t mentally present. He missed words and let the crowd sing the parts of the songs he didn’t. Chris seemed agitated a times. He walked off the stage for several minutes before playing “Been Away Too Long,” causing the band to start over and leaving them playing instrumentals to fill the gap. When he came back onstage, he made a “move it along” motion with his hand.Apparently Chris’ vocal were often not in sync with the music. At times, he would stop singing completely and gave up for several seconds before catching back up with his bandmates.
His final song was a cover of Led Zeppelin's "In My Time of Dying." The opening line was, "In my time of dying, I want nobody to mourn."
