OJ Simpson became a free man yesterday after serving nine years in prison for a botched hotel-room heist in Las Vegas. Simpson was released just after midnight from Lovelock Correctional Center to avoid a media circus.
Seventy-year-old Simpson will still have up to five years of parole in his future. OJ was looking forward to getting an iPhone, reuniting with his family, eating a steak and seafood and moving back to Florida. The Florida Department of Corrections had not received a transfer request or required documents, and the attorney general (Pam Bondi) said the state didn't want him. She said, ”The specter of his residing in comfort in Florida should not be an option. Our state should not become a country club for this convicted criminal.”
The reason there hasn't been a transfer is because OJ plans to live at a home in the Las Vegas area for the foreseeable future, according to a Nevada parole official. He said Simpson has one approved residential plan, and it doesn’t currently include a move to Florida or any other state.
P.S. OJ wants millions of dollars for his first TV interview since being released from prison.
Sources tell us Simpson's team has already reached out to several outlets to gauge interest. The sources add the former NFL star is believed to be asking between $3 million and $5 million for the interview.
Some possible names expected to snag the first interview are NBC's Matt Lauer, Megyn Kelly or Lester Holt; ABC's Robin Roberts and Michael Strahan; or CBS's newest “60 Minutes” correspondent Oprah Winfrey.
