Janelle Monae addressed her sexuality in a new interview this week, admitting for the first time publicly that she is a “queer black woman.”
In an interview with Rolling Stone, the singer said she identifies as pansexual, after having spent years dodging rumors about her love life.
Janelle said, “Being a queer black woman in America — someone who has been in relationships with both men and women — I consider myself to be a free-ass motherf****r.”
