Pete Davidson is taking heat for poking fun at an eye patch worn by a Republican war veteran running for Congress on "SNL" this week.
During the show’s “Weekend Update” segment, Pete said: “This guy’s kinda cool — Dan Crenshaw”. Show co-writer and segment host Michael Che groaned “Oh c’mon man” as Pete continued.
“You may be surprised to learn he’s a congressional candidate from Texas and not a hitman in a porno movie.“I’m sorry — I know he lost his eye in war or whatever,” he chuckled.
Conservatives pounced on Pete immediately. National Republican Campaign Committee spokesman Jack Pandol suggested Pete was bitter over his recent engagement to Ariana Grande fell through and demanded an apology.
But Dan Crenshaw tweeted: “Good rule in life: I try hard not to offend; I try harder not to be offended. That being said, I hope @nbcsnl recognizes that vets don’t deserve to see their wounds used as punchlines for bad jokes."
In addition, during an interview with TMZ, Crenshaw doubled down and shot the idea that Pete Davidson must issue an apology. He wants society to get away from the culture of apology-demanding every time someone misspeaks.
