J.K. Rowling is being slammed for comments about the transgender community.
The “Harry Potter” author took to Twitter to criticize a headline that included the phrase "people who menstruate" in an effort to be more inclusive.
She tweeted, "I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?"
Rowling added, "It isn’t hate to speak the truth... I respect every trans person’s right to live any way that feels authentic and comfortable to them.”
Several celebrities took to Twitter to slam J.K. Rowling for her anti-transgender tweets.
Actress Sarah Paulson tweeted "Word. Goodnight and shut up @jk_rowling" while singerMary Lambert tweeted "What the actual f--k??? This is so disgraceful, @jk_rowling. Of all the hills to die on, and for what reason? Trans women are women and they are fighting for their lives.”
Actress Jameela Jamil tweeted "Close mouth. Open purse" as she shared a GoFundMe page to raise money for black trans women that live in Atlanta and are sex workers and/or homeless.
