Kanye West finally released his long-awaited album “Donda” after multiple listening parties.
... or did he?
The album, which has 26 songs, hit Apple Music and Spotify yesterday morning.
Just hours later, Kanye claimed on social media that the oft-delayed album was released without his approval by Universal Music Group, the parent company of Def Jam Recordings.
Kanye wrote, in all caps,“UNIVERSAL PUT MY ALBUM OUT WITHOUT MY APPROVAL AND THEY BLOCKED JAIL 2 FROM BEING ON THE ALBUM."
The "Donda" track"Jail pt 2," featuring DaBaby, was originally unavailable when the album first appeared on streaming services Sunday morning, but became available later in the afternoon. In a now-deleted Instagram post from early Sunday, Kanye shared screenshots of text messages saying the track was being held up because of clearance issues from DaBaby.
The album was initially supposed to be released July 23. That date got moved to August 6. Then it became unclear exactly when the album would hit streaming services.
Kanye’s estranged wife, Kim Kardashian, gave “Donda” a plug with screenshots of her listening to the new album herself.
