Nicki Minaj couldn't attend the 2021 Met Gala yesterday because she’s unvaccinated.
She tweeted, "They want you to get vaccinated for the Met. If I get vaccinated it won’t [be] for the Met. It’ll be once I feel I’ve done enough research.
“I’m working on that now. In the meantime my loves, be safe. Wear the mask with 2 strings that grips your head & face. Not that loose one."
Nicki also wrote that she had already contracted the virus while preparing for Sunday night's MTV Video Music Awards, so she ended up pulling out of her planned performance.
Later, MSNBC host Joy Reid took Nicki to task on her show, accusing her of encouraging the Black community to skip the vaccine. Nicki in turn slammed Reid as an "uncle tomiana"and accused her of not bothering to learn the whole story. "They got someone with black skin for a reason," Nicki added. "They always use us against us."
Nicki's later tweets included one acknowledging she would recommend the shot to people whose jobs require it; another saying it's "the norm" to be protected from COVID after vaccination (as opposed to getting a breakthrough case, which she had talked about in earlier tweets).
