Actress Allison Mack started her prison sentence early. She's at a low-security federal correctional facility for women in California. The 39-year-old, best known for "Smallville", was convicted in the NXIVM sex cult case.
Allison was sentenced to three years in prison on June 30 after pleading guilty to charges she manipulated women into becoming sex slaves for the group’s spiritual leader.
She is expected to seek credit for cooperating against NXIVM leader Keith Raniere and taking responsibility for helping him create a secret society of brainwashed women who were branded with his initials.
Under advisory sentencing guidelines, Allison would have faced between 14 and 17 1/2 years behind bars. Her defense team has argued in court papers that probation or a sentence to home confinement is more appropriate, and prosecutors have agreed that any prison term should be below the guidelines range because of her cooperation.
In the end, she was sentenced to 36 months for racketeering and 36 months for racketeering conspiracy — both to be served concurrently. She will also have three years of post-release probation. Additionally, she was fined $20,000.
