James Corden is leaving “The Late Late Show” after next season.
The decision to step down was Corden’s and CBS is “desperately trying to keep him for longer.”
“The Late Late Show” is currently in season 7 and Corden's tenure will end with the completion of season 8 in 2023.
He plans to spend more time back in the UK and he is contemplating a move home with his wife Jules and 3 kids.
Corden promised to “go out with a bang” as he informed audiences of his decision to step down.
He said the show had changed his life and he promised there would be “lots of tears” when season 8 ends.
Corden said, “Seven and half years ago I started hosting this show and there's no other way to put it, it has changed my life. I never saw as it as my final destination, and I never want this show to overstay its welcome, I love making it and I really think in a year from now that will be a good time to move on and see what's out there. We are all determined to make this the best year we have ever had...we are going to go out with a bang. The fact that you watch this...all over the world...is an absolute privilege for me and every single person who makes this show.”
Corden said it's been a difficult decision because he’s so proud of the show. When asked if he plans to move home, Corden said he and his wife do not have an answer to that yet.
