Cross examination of Amber Heard continued Tuesday in Johnny Depp's defamation case against the actress.
-- Depp's attorney Camille Vasquez opened her cross by revealing the story behind what everyone watching this trial has noticed: Depp hasn’t been able to look at Heard even once. Vasquez said, “Mr. Depp hasn’t looked at you once this entire trial, has he?”
“Not that I’ve noticed, no,” replied Heard.
“You know exactly why Mr. Depp won’t look back at you, don’t you?” Heard said she did know why until Vasquez asked her next question.
“He promised you you would never see his eyes again, isn’t that true?”
Heard denied knowing that Depp told her that. That’s when Vasquez played a tape we haven’t heard yet. On it, Heard, having broken the restraining order to see Depp and beg for him to come back to her, is heard begging to touch him again and see his eyes. At one point she tries to take his glasses off. After rejecting her attempt to remove his glasses, Depp says, “You will not see my f*cking eyes again.”
-- Entries from their personal shared diary were shown to the jury. In a diary entry on May 22, 2015, Heard wrote: 'I have seen in you the true bones of friendship and respect but I still more than ever want to rip you apart, devour you and savor the taste'.
When pressed by Depp's attorney Camille Vasquez on the contents, Heard said, 'It was a love note'.
Heard has claimed that during her honeymoon with Depp in July 2015 aboard the Orient Express he brutally assaulted her. But the court was shown a note in the diary from July 22 that year which read: 'My husband, happy honeymoon'.
--Amber Heard had James Franco over to her home the night before she filed for divorce from Johnny Depp.
Video (seen in court)shows Franco inside the elevator of the Eastern Columbia Building in Los Angeles on May 22, 2016 -- one day after Depp allegedly hurled a phone at Heard in their penthouse pad there.
They then exit the elevator together.
While Heard originally claimed that she did “not know when James came over,” the actress later confirmed the event, explaining why she felt comfortable having Franco in her home.
She said, “He was my friend. And he lived next door, quite literally next door. And I, frankly, had exhausted my support network with my usual friends and was happy to welcome as much friendship at that time as I could possibly get.”
Depp's lawyer asked, 'You knew that Mr. Depp was out of town May 22, 2016, didn't you?' adding that the visit came the day after she changed the locks.
(Depp, for his part, confirmed that he believed Heard was having an affair with the Spring Breakers star during his April 21 testimony.)
-- Depp's attorney Camille Vasquez closed her questioning by referencing allegations that Heard hit her ex-girlfriend Tasya van Ree in 2009. She said, 'Johnny Depp isn't the only partner of yours that you've assaulted'. Heard replied, 'I've never assaulted any partner'.
Depp is suing Heard for defamation over a 2018 op-ed piece she wrote for The Washington Post in which she detailed her survival as an alleged domestic abuse victim. While the actress didn’t name Depp in the piece, his legal team has argued that based on her previous allegations of abuse, people associate him with the op-ed and it has slandered his reputation in the industry.
