Jimmy Kimmel was slammed on social media for his on stage stunt during the Emmys,carrying on a joke far too long as winner Quinta Brunson tried to deliver her acceptance speech.
Kimmel lay on stage for an uncomfortably long period, sprawled across the floor as Brunson, the creator of "Abbott Elementary", was awarded an Emmy for her writing on a comedy series. As she accepted her speech — or tried to accept her speech — she had to step around Kimmel, who obnoxiously refused to move.
Will Arnett tried to literally move Kimmel out of the way, to no avail, and Brunson tried to crack her own lighthearted joke, telling him to “wake up” because she just won.
Kimmel gave a blasé thumbs up to Brunson, then returned to his “comatose” state in the middle of the stage, stealing her moment.
Twitter users slammed Kimmel for robbing Brunson of the respect she deserved.
One person wrote, “Jimmy Kimmel’s little bit detracted from Quinta’s big moment and that’s just infuriating."
Another added, “So Jimmy Kimmel is really gonna upstage her speech by laying on the floor in front of her? Like what the f--k.”
One more infuriated user wrote, “Yo f--k Jimmy Kimmel. Get your ass off the stage. It’s somebody else’s moment. A--hole behavior,” while another tweeted a suggestion for Brunson: “I wish she had kicked Kimmel in the head.”
