Britney Spears seems to have called out her pal Selena Gomez in a post shared to Instagram on Tuesday.
The 40-year-old pop star appeared to make reference to an acceptance speech Gomez made at the 2016 American Music Awards after taking home the Favorite Female Pop/Rock Artist award.
Selena said, 'I don't wanna see your bodies on Instagram. I wanna see what's in here,' while gesturing to her heart. 'I'm not trying to get validation nor do I need it anymore.'
Spears nearly quotes the first line verbatim in Tuesday's post before slamming her for 'righteous speeches'... and women who 'shame' other women.
Britney wrote, 'Don't you just love the nerve of women who stand firmly getting awards and speak on their beliefs about not showing their bodies on instagram ???!!!!!'
'They say "This is NOT something I would do" yet those women are the very ones who get 4 million dollar budget videos made about sucking and licking on homemade ice cream!!!!'
The 'homemade ice cream' music video may be a reference to Gomez's 2020 collaboration with the South Korean girl group BLACKPINK, titled "Ice Cream".
The music video was released in August 2020 and featured visuals of Gomez, as well as BLACKPINK members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa, manning an ice cream truck and snacking on ice cream cones.
Information regarding the music video's budget has not been shared publicly.
Spears continued: 'These other girls have nothing but beautiful bodies !!!! Who cares if the flaunt it ??? THEY SHOULD !!!'
'So the next time I see someone with a big budget video sucking on lollipops yet giving righteous speeches shaming other women for exposing their bodies, I would like to tell those people don't be a hypocrite as you suck on your lollipop having HUGE budget dreams…
'why would you stand firmly against girls getting attention JUST LIKE YOU and they have absolutely nothing ????'
Britney's fans began to speculate that Selena may be the subject.
Any beef between the two singers would come as a shock being that Gomez was one of the invited to attend Spears' wedding this past June.
