It seems like it was yesterday that Spike welcomed his first daughter, Natalie, to this world. Now she is at her orientation at Grand Valley State University.
"You do everything you can as a parent to instill values and hope they are responsible to look after their own well-being," Spike said. This year was very special for Spike and Kris as parents having both of their daughters in high school together and seeing them be best friends. They would come home every day chatting and laughing with each other.
Spike is going to miss the student-teacher conferences, long dance recitals and walking through the American Girl Doll store memories from her childhood. In the moment, you think it's the longest and more tiring days ever, but to all the parents reading this... cherish those moments. Before you know it, your children will be grown and on their own and you will dream about doing it all over again.
Spike brought us all to tears at the end of this podcast when he shared a few words with his daughter as she was in the car listening on her way to GVSU. "I want her to know that she can always come to me, I will always help her figure things out and I look forward to being her best friend and not just the parent."
